FAQ

Booking & Tickets

1. Do I need to book in advance?
We strongly recommend it. All visits to Castello di Roppolo are guided, and the number of visitors admitted each day is limited. From April to October, tickets can be purchased online here or at the castle boutique — but online booking is the only way to guarantee a place. From November to March the museum is closed to walk-in visitors, and the castle can be visited by reservation only, made at least 48 hours in advance. To book, write to contact@castellodiroppolo.com or call +39 0161 705 552.

2. When is the castle open?
From 1 April to 31 October: Wednesday to Sunday, 10:00–12:00 and 14:00–18:00. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
From 1 November to 31 March the museum is closed, but the castle remains open to visitors who book at least 48 hours ahead.
The castle may also close on public holidays and during private events. If you are travelling a long distance, we suggest confirming with us before setting out.

3. How much does a ticket cost, and where can I buy it?
Full price €9.8
Reduced price €6.9 for children aged  7 to 14 years).
Tickets can be purchased online on this website or at the boutique by the castle entrance. Because daily numbers are limited, we recommend booking online in advance.

4. Which payment methods do you accept? Can I cancel or change my ticket?
We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard and American Express. If you pay with a card issued outside Italy, your bank may apply an additional fee. Tickets are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged or returned, so please check the date and time carefully before confirming. Lost, stolen or damaged tickets cannot be replaced. Goods bought at the boutique may be exchanged within 3 working days if unopened, with tags and receipt; sale items are excluded.

Your Visit

5. Can I visit the castle on my own, without a guide?
No. All visits are accompanied by one of our professional guides, both for your safety and for the protection of the collections. Anyone wishing to lead a visit must hold an official castle guide badge, which is issued only with an advance group reservation.

6. How long does the visit last, and what will I see?
A guided visit lasts approximately 75-90 minutes. You will walk through the historic rooms of a castle whose origins go back to the 7th century. The collection comprises hundreds of paintings, sculptures, pieces of furniture and antique arms, among them portraits of figures connected with the castle's history — Charlemagne, Napoleon Bonaparte, Azzone Visconti, Charles VIII of France and several members of the House of Savoy. The terraces offer a panoramic view over Lake Viverone and the Alps.

7. Can I take photographs?
Yes. Photography and video for personal use are permitted. The use of flash and tripods is not allowed, either inside or outside the castle. Please do not touch the artworks, frames, bases or any protective fittings. Only pencils may be used for sketching or note-taking. Professional photographers and commercial shoots require a dedicated booking — please contact us at least one week in advance at contact@castellodiroppolo.com.

8. Can I bring a backpack or a large bag?
For security reasons, large bags and backpacks cannot be taken into the castle. A secure storage space is available at the boutique, where you can leave them free of charge for the duration of your visit.
